Frequently asked questions
The cost of the Himplant procedure varies depending on each patient’s individual needs and circumstances. On average, the procedure typically ranges from $16,000 to $18,000, depending on the clinic. Additional expenses may apply for procedures such as circumcision (for uncircumcised patients), lipectomy (for overweight patients), or travel arrangements for out-of-town patients.
If affordability is a concern, many of our partner clinics provide flexible financing options, including zero-interest payment plans for a limited time.
To be eligible for the Himplant™, patients must be at least 21 years old and circumcised. For those who are not yet circumcised, our Himplant™ physicians can perform a circumcision prior to the implant procedure.
Additional eligibility factors will be reviewed in detail by your patient consultant. In most cases, candidates are declined if they have previously undergone another penile enhancement procedure.
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity until you have received clearance from your Himplant™ surgeon or medical staff—this is typically around six (6) to eight (8) weeks after the procedure.
Light upper body exercises may be resumed with medical approval, usually at about four (4) weeks post-procedure, depending on individual recovery. Light lower body workouts can generally begin after four (4) to six (6) weeks, once cleared by your surgeon.
Your regular exercise routine can typically resume six (6) to eight (8) weeks after surgery, upon approval from your Himplant™ care team. During any strenuous activity—and for up to six months following your procedure—it is recommended that you continue to wear the UroWrap for added support and protection.
It is essential to avoid all sexual activity—including oral, vaginal, anal intercourse, and masturbation—until you are officially cleared by your Himplant™ surgeon and medical team.
This clearance is usually granted six (6) to eight (8) weeks after the procedure, though recovery time may vary for each patient. Once cleared, you should use a condom and clean the area with antibacterial soap and water after each sexual encounter for the first six (6) to eight (8) weeks of resumed activity.
Carefully monitor your penis for any unusual changes such as redness, soreness, swelling, or inflammation, and report these symptoms to your Himplant™ surgeon immediately. Refrain from any risky or vigorous sexual activity during the early healing period.
The Himplant™ procedure is carefully performed to preserve the natural structure and function of the penis during insertion. Surgeons take every precaution to maintain tissue integrity, allowing for safe implant removal if ever necessary. According to a 2021 study, implant removal due to complications or patient preference (such as dissatisfaction) occurred in fewer than 10% of cases.
Following implant removal, a rehabilitation process is essential to promote proper healing and help restore any temporary loss of length that may result from initial penile retraction. This recovery phase plays a vital role in achieving the best possible outcome.
A clinical review of 400 patients over a five-year period found no reported changes in penile function, erection quality, or ejaculation during sexual activity. Some patients did experience temporary changes in sensation, including both increased and decreased sensitivity. These effects are generally short-lived and tend to resolve naturally as the skin adjusts and expands. As with any procedure, individual results may vary.
Some patients may notice a change in penile size or appearance following the Himplant® procedure. The penis can appear slightly shorter immediately after surgery, as the increased girth can alter the perception of length. In certain cases, a minor retraction may also occur due to skin tension and the natural capsule formation around the implant.
These effects are typically temporary and tend to improve as the tissue softens and the skin gradually stretches. Full recovery and final results may take up to one year to develop.
The Himplant® is specifically engineered to avoid interference with the erectile structures of the penis. While any surgery in the genital area carries a potential risk of erectile dysfunction, a five-year clinical review involving 400 patients showed no evidence of ED resulting from the Himplant® procedure.
The increase in penile size following the Himplant® procedure can sometimes lead to phimosis, a condition in which the foreskin cannot fully retract over the glans (head) of the penis.
Because uncircumcised men are at greater risk for this complication and may have more difficulty maintaining hygieneafter surgery, circumcision is required before undergoing the Himplant® procedure. The implant surgery is typically performed 10–12 weeks after circumcision, or once the skin has completely healed.
Whenever possible, it is strongly recommended that the circumcision be performed by your Himplant® surgeon. If that is not feasible, the procedure can be completed by your local physician prior to scheduling the Himplant®.
After the insertion of any medical implant, the body naturally forms a “capsule” of tissue around it as part of the healing process. This is the body’s way of isolating a foreign object by creating a thin layer of protective tissue—an entirely normal and beneficial response.
In the case of the Himplant®, capsule formation can actually enhance the outcome by adding a subtle increase in girth, providing a protective cushion over the sutures, improving implant durability, and contributing to a more natural feel.
This process typically develops over 4 to 8 months, though the size and thickness of the capsule vary from person to person. Consistent use of the UroWrap compression sleeve can support and optimize this process, helping achieve the best aesthetic and functional results.
It is generally advised to avoid alcohol during the recovery period following your procedure. Alcohol can reduce the effectiveness of prescribed medications and may increase the risk of complications, potentially delaying healing.
For optimal recovery, it is also important to maintain a healthy, balanced diet rich in nutrients to support the body’s natural healing process and promote the best possible results.
The Himplant® procedure is not suitable for everyone. To qualify, patients must meet the minimum age requirementand be circumcised prior to implantation.
Individuals who have previously undergone other penile enhancement procedures are generally not eligible, as prior treatments can leave permanent tissue damage or residual materials within the penile lining. Even if such procedures were performed years earlier or the foreign material has been removed, the implant cannot be properly placed, and the skin may not heal normally, increasing the risk of infection and complications.
Candidates must be in good overall health and medically cleared for anesthesia. In addition, all patients must abstain from tobacco and illicit drug use for at least 30 days before and three months after the procedure to ensure optimal healing.
It’s also important to have realistic expectations—the Himplant® can significantly enhance confidence and satisfaction, but it is not a solution for unrelated issues. Patients must agree to follow all pre- and post-operative guidelinescarefully.
To determine eligibility, begin by completing the Himplant® candidate questionnaire, followed by a detailed consultation with your Himplant® consultant and surgeon.
Patients with diabetes tend to experience a higher risk of complications and slower healing following the procedure. This is primarily due to changes in skin vascularity and circulation associated with the condition.
For safety reasons, all diabetic patients are required to provide recent blood work (within 3 months) showing an A1C level of 7.5 or below before being approved for surgery. Patient safety remains our top priority.
If your A1C exceeds the acceptable range or your diabetes is not well controlled, we encourage you to work with your primary care physician to stabilize your blood sugar through appropriate medical care, dietary changes, and lifestyle improvements. Once your condition is better managed, we will gladly reassess your eligibility for the Himplant® procedure.
You may shower once your physician has given clearance, which is typically after the Jackson-Pratt (JP) drain has been removed, though specific timelines may vary based on individual recovery.
Avoid submerging your body in water—including hot tubs, Jacuzzis, saunas (wet or dry), Whirlpool baths, or pools—until you receive explicit clearance from your medical team. This is generally around six (6) to eight (8) weeks after the procedure.
The Himplant® is specifically designed to feel natural in both the flaccid (“soft”) and erect (“hard”) states. It is made from soft, medical-grade silicone to closely replicate the natural texture and flexibility of penile tissue.
Over time, the capsule formation that develops around the implant further enhances its natural feel and appearance. This process typically takes 6 to 12 months to fully mature.
Many patients report that the implant is undetectable to sexual partners who were unaware of the prior anatomy. However, since the implant is a foreign device, there is always a possibility it may be felt or detected.
In short, excess fat above the pubic area can impact your eligibility for the Himplant® procedure. More specifically, suprapubic fat can place pressure on the base of the implant, preventing it from sitting properly. This may affect the cosmetic outcome and increase the risk of complications.
Some Himplant® providers offer lipectomy or liposuction to address this issue. However, we strongly recommend reaching your target weight through diet and exercise before undergoing surgery. A Body Mass Index (BMI)calculator can help evaluate eligibility, though BMI alone is not the only determining factor, as each person’s body composition is unique.
If you’re uncertain, you can submit photos to the Himplant® medical team, who will review them and advise you on the best approach for your specific case.
Eligibility in cases of penile curvature depends on the degree and nature of the curvature. To properly assess candidacy, our medical team will need to review photos of the penis and may recommend further evaluation if needed.
We will help you schedule a consultation with a certified Himplant® physician, who will make the final decision regarding eligibility for the procedure.
Please note that any pre-existing penile deformity can influence the aesthetic outcome of the surgery and should be discussed in detail with your surgeon prior to treatment.
Nicotine use can significantly reduce blood flow and vascularity, which may delay healing and increase the risk of complications after surgery.
All Himplant® patients are required to completely avoid tobacco and nicotine products—including vapes, cigarettes, nicotine gum, and chewing tobacco—as well as illicit drugs for at least 30 days before the procedure and a minimum of 3 months after to ensure optimal healing and safety.
In most cases, patients with autoimmune diseases are not ideal candidates for the Himplant® procedure, as medications used to manage these conditions can increase the risk of complications and impair healing.
However, eligibility may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Your situation can be carefully evaluated by the Himplant® medical team or your Himplant® surgeon to determine whether the procedure is safe for you.
Do not use any stretching exercises, external stretching devices, or vacuum pumps after receiving the Himplant®. These methods can damage the implant and lead to serious complications.
Applying excessive pressure to the implant may cause structural issues that could ultimately require surgical removalof the device.
Wearing a compression sleeve helps to reduce post-surgical swelling and edema, which can in turn shorten the recovery period. During your first follow-up visit, the initial dressing will be replaced with a medical compression sleeve called the UroWrap, which must remain on the penis continuously until the drain is removed.
Be sure to replace the UroWrap with a clean one daily. For the first week after drain removal (or as directed by your surgeon), wear the UroWrap both during the day and while sleeping, removing it every few hours if you are at home.
Before showering, remove the UroWrap and allow the penis to air dry for at least one hour afterward. After the first week (or according to your surgeon’s instructions), wear the UroWrap only during the day, removing it at night and whenever you bathe or submerge in water.
Many people ask about the difference between FDA clearance and FDA approval. FDA clearance means that the agency has reviewed supporting data and determined that a device is substantially equivalent to an already marketed device (a “predicate”). This process typically applies to devices considered to have a lower risk profile.
In contrast, FDA approval involves a more extensive review in which the FDA evaluates the benefits and risks of a new device to decide if it should be approved for use, generally applying to higher-risk or novel devices. Whether cleared or approved, the designation means the device is authorized for use by healthcare professionals in the U.S. For additional details, visit fda.gov.
Based on past clinical outcomes, patients typically experience an average increase of 1 to 2 inches in penile girthfollowing the Himplant® procedure. Some have also reported gains in flaccid penile length.
However, erect length changes are unpredictable and depend entirely on each patient’s unique anatomy. As with any medical procedure, individual results will vary.
The Himplant® is a subcutaneous penile implant, meaning it is placed beneath the skin of the penis rather than within the erectile tissue. During the procedure, your Himplant® surgeon makes a small incision along the upper portion of the scrotum to access the penile shaft.
This approach helps minimize scar tissue formation in the pubic region, and the natural texture of the scrotal skinallows the incision line to heal discreetly, becoming barely noticeable once recovery is complete.
As with any surgical procedure, the Himplant® involves both potential benefits and possible risks. Your physician will review all risks, complications, benefits, and alternatives—including the option of not proceeding—before the surgery.
According to our IRB-approved retrospective clinical study, patients reported high levels of satisfaction and improved self-confidence following implantation.
A small percentage of adverse events were observed, including infection (3%) and seroma or fluid accumulation (5%), most commonly linked to non-compliance with post-operative instructions.
By closely following the post-operative care guidelines, patients can significantly minimize the risk of complicationsand help ensure optimal results.
